O’Brien Civil

O’Brien Civil is a civil and structural engineering company delivering earthworks, drainage, structural and road construction works to the government, private infrastructure, mining & resources, and energy transition sectors of Western Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory.

The project: Brand refresh and web design and development

Like many businesses that have grown largely based on word of mouth and their reputation for delivering the goods, O’Brien Civil had been too busy getting the jobs done to focus on its branding and marketing.

As the scale and profile of their projects grew, they realised there was an opportunity to highlight the range and depth of the services they offer with a website that showcased their portfolio of projects, and brought to life the values that underpin their business.

The O’Brien team also saw this as an opportunity for a brand refresh. They reached out to DASH Digital to get the ball rolling.

The Process

The ‘getting to know you’ phase

DASH Digital’s Creative Director Gary Knights met with O’Brien to discuss the project and gain an understanding of their business.

“We always want to get to know our clients, how they like to do business, who they want to reach, and what they want potential customers to think about them,” Gary said.

“For O’Brien, it was important that clients understood that safety and quality are their priorities, and that they achieve successful outcomes by building strong relationships with their customers.”

It was also apparent that O’Brien had a strong portfolio of projects and a proven track record of delivery that could be showcased to evidence their commitment to excellence.

The design phase

The brand refresh came first.

DASH Digital worked up a number of concepts that reflected the range of services O’Brien offers.

Once the brand was locked down, it was time to tackle the website.

Working closely with content writer Zoe Croft, DASH Digital created a wireframe (site map) that placed O’Brien’s project portfolio front and centre, with drone footage and stills of works in progress, as well as completed projects.

Each service that O’Brien provides had supporting case studies, enabling potential clients to explore O’Brien’s work by project or by service type.

The outcome

The outcome was a refreshed brand that is vibrant and ‘clean’, with a website that is easy to navigate and clearly evidences O’Brien’s capabilities – and a happy customer

“Dash Digital were great to work with, their process is so easy and professional, especially using BugHerd for all the finer changes and comments throughout the development. We couldn’t be happier with the end result.”
